Associate Blog Editor (i.e. unpaid intern Kat) is going to regret her suggestion to purchase a flip camera as now she must help post all these movies! But we had so much fun on Superbowl Sunday, you have to see for yourself.

Movie 1 is my baking handy work compared to Martha Stewart. It took 3 shopping trips, 12 hours, and a pair of sterilized eyebrow tweasers but see for yourself if this cake doesn’t look like the one the mag!

Intern Super Kat suggested I get myself a Flip Video camera and I am now officially obsessed! Let’s see how long it takes for me to get thrown out of a club for unauthorized recording.

I came pretty close on my very first outing; the sizzling hot, sold out Adele/James Morrison show at Neumos. I managed to nap her first song, and a little of her demonstrating her guitar chops before getting told (forcefully!) by a big bouncer to knock it off.

I understand why U2 didn’t want the crappy audio clips I recorded and posted here last Friday floating around the internet (they’ve been, um, “removed”).

The band cares a ton about the quality of the sound of their recordings! That’s why they enlist two of the greatest producers of all time to help them in the process: Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno.

I am a not so secret Daniel Lanois fan…in addition to his work with U2, he’s helmed two of the “other” greatest recordings of all time: Emmylou Harris’ Wrecking Ball and Dylan’s Time Out Of Mind. His solo albums are always soulful and interesting.

He owned a famous old recording studio in New Orleans and I actually got to spend a few nights there when my friend Kristin was recording an album. He wasn’t there (drat!) but his ghosts certainly were…it’s haunted!

Here’s how my Saturday morning began… with a voicemail (on my cell phone no less) from a representative of U2 saying, “Shawn, you are ruining my vacation in Mexico!” That was followed by entreaties to remove my crappy snippets of the new U2 song.

And by entreaties, I mean threats.

So down the snippets came, and now we have the actual song to hear and purchase on iTunes. So no hard feelings, Bono!

By now, you’ve seen the (RED) cups at Starbucks. Maybe you’ve shopped with the AMEX (RED) card, or get your U2 fix on a (RED) iPod.

Well, now you can lace up with (RED), too.

Today is World AIDS Day, a day of particular significance to Bono, whose (RED) brand launched four years ago to help support the Global Fund in their effort to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Africa. Since its beginning, (RED) has garnered the support of major retailers like Apple, Dell, Starbucks, Gap, and American Eagle (just to name a few).

Yesterday, Nike announced that they want to join the cause, too.

Nike will be selling special red laces in their “Lace up. Save lives.” campaign to coincide with the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Alongside Bono is Didier Drogba, the Chelsea soccer player, whose roots are in Africa.

Reflective of this dual effort of Bono and Drogba, profits from the laces will equally benefit the Global Fund and soccer-based community programs aimed at educating people about AIDS.
